Alastair Dobbie, Esq.


Alastair Dobbie is a Barrister-at-law from England specializing in cross-cultural negotiation and legal settlement negotiation. He is a trainer and consultant in negotiation and management skills.

Mr. Dobbie has been trained by Gerard Nierenberg and conducts his seminars using the philosophy Mr. Nierenberg has developed; Everybody Wins®.  He trains the participants to conduct negotiations with the object of creating an outcome in which all parties gain from the conclusion and come away with their needs addressed.

He has trained managers at some of the world's largest firms and holds academic credentials from some of the top universities and negotiation centers in the UK, the USA and Australia including Oxford, Harvard, BPP London and Bond University.

His work as a consultant and trainer has brought him into contact with high level business and legal professionals, organizations and associations, and educational institutions with programs reaching as far as Singapore, Australia, Europe and the United States of America.

Mr. Dobbie has several languages at his disposal including French, German, Spanish and Italian. He has worked on cultural differences in negotiation styles and expectations and has privately studied Islamic and Arabic business and social culture. He has also studied differences between Chinese and Western cultural approaches.

Alastair co-presented at workshops for Global Negotiation Insight Initiative Company, based around research into high level legal settlement and mediation as well as states of physical and mental awareness in high pressure negotiations.

He has trained, consulted or worked for global firms including: McGraw-Hill, MasterCard,
Freshfields, Goldman Sachs, Citibank, West Merchant Bank (West Deutsche Landesbank), NatWest Global Financial Markets (now Royal Bank of Scotland), Boston Financial Data Services, Genzyme, Vantage Partners and Mobius Executive Leadership.

Working in the legal field, he has assisted in cases as varied as Competition cases (anti-trust), banking insolvencies and serious criminal litigation. He has also worked on an African war crimes litigation case.

His work as a banker allowed him to experience first-hand and the effects of the 1997 Emerging Markets crisis and the impact on Foreign Exchange after the introduction of the European single currency. He has worked as a trader and has a good knowledge of complex derivatives and financial products.

He has a BA in Law (Jurisprudence) from Oxford and a BVC from BPP Law School.
